Pride at the Senior Center of West Seattle

Pride at the Senior Center of West Seattle is a big deal. While we proudly celebrate the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer+ community during the month of June, your Senior Center works year round to make this a more welcoming place for everyone in our community. We do this through a number of groups, programs, events, and initiatives.

Older Westside Lesbian Group (OWLS)

OWLS is a monthly gathering of the Older and Wiser lesbians living on the Westside of Seattle.

Second Thursday Out

Second Thursday Out is a gathering of all LGBTQ+ members, their neighbors and friends.

Rainbow Bingo

Rainbow Bingo is a long-standing fundraising event supporting the Senior Center of West Seattle. This fun, festive, and outrageous event brings the entire community together for a special evening you will never forget.

Workplace Initiatives

· We begin most meetings by introducing ourselves and preferred pronouns.

· Many of our staff members, volunteers, and Senior Center members are members of the LGBTQ+ community. Each is encouraged and given space to live their authentic selves.

· We recognize all LGBTQ+ couples when donations are received.

· Thanks to a partnership with Sound Generations, we are able to provide ongoing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training.

· We are proud to partner with GenPRIDE and assist aging LGBTQ+ members with their aging process

Even with all the we have accomplished, we know there is still so much work to do. We need to do more for members and potential members of color who belong to this community. There is still work to do around equity, barriers to entry, and creating a space reflective of the community we serve and wish to serve. Internally, this conversation is ongoing and we welcome you to be a part of it. As we move forward, we will continue adapting our strategic plan, mapping the resources of the community, and conducting community-based needs assessments. With great data and feedback, we are also committed to action. We are committed to getting this right.
